Today I went to the Puyallup fair with my fiance Judy. I’ve lived in Seattle for 5 years and had never been, so I thought it might be fun. The fair is pretty huge, according to them, one of the top ten largest fairs in the world. Driving to the fair was a bit of an annoyance. The location is only about 40 miles from the Seattle area, yet you can imagine what happens when thousands of people are all trying to get there. The website recommends getting off at the Pioneer exit a mile and a half away from the fair, but internet directions recommend the closer Meridian exit. To make a long story short, either use their website directions, or approach from the south.
The real ridiculousness was what happened once we got to the fairgrounds area. There are guys standing in the nearby businesses parking lots charging $20 to park in a public parking lot. Across the street is a guy trying to charge $15 for parking in his lot. There was even a guy standing at the entrance to a residential street trying to make $8 off of people to parking there. Never having been before, we drove into the $20 lot (like a lot of other unsuspecting fairgoers), but decided not to park there and drove away. Just down the street was the actual fairground parking, which was more secure, closer, and $10. These guys charging people $15 and $20 are totally dishonest and immoral, although good businessmen.
